My Windows XP gaming box is targeted to the fall of 2006 hardware offering. It's based on the AMD Quad FX desktop platform with two dual-core Athlon 64 FX-74 processors on an ASUS L1N64-SLI WS motherboard, with four gigs of Crucial Ballistix DDR2-800 memory, two nVidia GeForce 8800 GTX 768MB cards running in SLI, a modded Chieftec Dragon DG-01 case, and a custom water cooling loop using modern parts. The PSU is also modern for reliability and cleanliness: Corsair RM850x. It's running Windows XP Professional x64 Edition with DirectX 9.0c.

The Chieftec Dragon case is from ~2004 and was new in box

Case modding to accommodate liquid cooling components

The back panel was modded to accommodate inlet/outlet holes for the liquid cooling.

I originally went with two nVidia GeForce 7950 GX2 1GB video cards from June 2006 because quad-SLI sounded really neat, but their compatibility ended up being too limited and cumbersome to justify over two 8800 GTX cards released shortly thereafter (see next photo).

These nVidia GeForce 8800 GTX cards ended up completing the build, released in November 2006.
